One's-self I sing - a simple, separate Person; Yet utter the word Democratic, the word En-masse - Walt Whitman, 1855
Hi, everybody! I'm Archie Bell and the Drells - Archie Bell & the Drells, 1968
Q: Are we not men? A: We are Devo! - Devo, 1978
I'm sure the Germans have a word for the inability to distinguish one's self from the selves around you, but I can't come up with an English equivalent. In the meantime, Moistworks' Astoria Bureau is closing up shop for the summer, and I'm off to Africa for the month - a well-deserved vacation, if you ask me. Thanks to R. Blood for taking me to see Devo last night. They only played for fifty minutes. The new drummer, a veteran of the early-eighties hardcore wars, hurt his hand and played the last four or five numbers with just one stick. It was heroic.Labels: alex
